Young attendees can enjoy storytelling, drawing, and games, while older children and teens will have the opportunity to try their hands at pizza-making and drumming. Highlights include:
Workshops for All Ages
The Goethe Clubhouse offers three exciting workshops led by expert facilitators that will run from 11:30 until 12:30, each tailored to different age groups:
– A Picture Tells a Thousand Words: For children aged 3 to 6, this storytelling and colouring session invites participants to explore beloved books like *The Book with No Pictures* by BJ Novak. Guided by Stuart Cairns, children will listen to engaging stories, create their own drawings, and bring their imaginations to life.
– Pizza Making Workshop: Open to ages 7 to 11, this culinary workshop led by Mantis Shabane of Bitten Studio lets young participants experience the art of pizza-making. Each child will learn to create their own mini pizza, adding a unique twist to the family tradition of pizza night.
– The Talking Drum Workshop: For ages 11 to 16, Gontse Makhene leads this hands-on drumming workshop, introducing participants to African percussion. Each participant will craft a percussive instrument, learning about rhythm and resonance and leaving with their own “talking drum” to take home.
Music and Movement
The day’s musical programme includes a powerful performance by the Ezase Vaal Brass Band, who will march from the parking lot to nearby Zoo Lake, filling the atmosphere with their dynamic brass arrangements. Additionally, the Gontse Makhene Trio will perform from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, bringing together percussions, marimba, and bass in an energetic display of African musical traditions.
All-Day Activities
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a variety of continuous activities. The silent disco in the auditorium invites participants of all ages to select their own music, dance with headphones, and experience the joy of shared rhythm. The Gamebox in the library will be open for gaming enthusiasts, offering VR experiences, console games, and independent digital creations.
From storytelling to live music, the Goethe Clubhouse event on 30 November is an exciting opportunity for families to connect, explore, and celebrate creativity. Set in the welcoming space of the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg, this day of free entertainment and artistic discovery promises memorable experiences for all.
