PROGRESS. ON CONTEMPORARY AND FUTURE SOCIETY

This open call for submissions is aimed at photographers, visual artists and video artists internationally. Successful candidates will have their work exhibited in Rome in December 2022.

More about the theme:

What is progress? On what ethical and moral basis does man undertake the evolutionary path that determines his being in the world, his relationship with the environment and with his fellow men? On what foundations and through what purposes does man undertake his scientific research? What are the outcomes and testimonies that have contributed to a qualitative improvement in human life? What are the outcomes and testimonies of the errors committed, and that man continues to commit?

Although in a continuous re-evaluation and alteration of behavioral orientation, and in response to his own needs and necessities, man creates that linear evolutionary path that leaves traces of himself and from which it is possible to detect the most intrinsic nature of him.

This call asks these and further questions. These are open questions to which authors engaged in the various digital media respond by addressing the issue in various humanistic and scientific areas.

K3 Residency Programme

In 2007, K3 began its main residency programme, which each year provides three choreographers with a chance to work on site for eight months. This groundbreaking programme is designed for emerging artists who have created original choreography and are just starting their professional careers. The residency begins in the middle of August and lasting until the middle of April the following year.

The residency’s objective is to deepen the links between choreographic practice, academic inquiry, creative output, and qualification. The three choreographers will each create a full-length piece within the residency, which will then be performed on three evenings as part of TanzHochDrei. The benefits of being a resident choreographer include a monthly stipend, a production budget, mentoring, dramaturgical help, and chances to advance their education.

The courses and professional training programmes that K3 offers are closely correlated with the residency programme. The residency offers mentoring as well as assistance with dramaturgical, technical, and production issues. Additionally, it makes a strong connection between the projects suggested by the resident choreographers and the different ongoing K3 programs.

Call for Fellows: Testing Grounds

Het Nieuwe Instituut has conducted and funded research in architecture, design, and digital culture since its founding in 2013. Exhibitions, lectures, archival investigations and publications have served as outputs of research, but more importantly as active platforms for its development.

The Fellowship Programme at Het Nieuwe Instituut, which was founded by previous Head of Research Marina Otero Verzier, is essential to these platforms. The fellowship is ultimately a chance to practice different ways of thinking and acting. Its purpose is to support and learn from a diversity of research efforts and approaches.

This year’s Call for Fellows is focused on promoting research practices as testing grounds in keeping with the fellowship program’s continued goal to practice alternative ways of thinking and acting. Finding research causes, trying out methodologies, and creating tools are all made possible by approaching these test sites as action spaces and networks of relationships. This year’s theme emphasizes “testing grounds” as methods of conducting research rather than just the content of the investigation.
