MENTORSHIP WITH LUCIA WALKER

The Academy for the Less Good Idea calls Johannesburg-based artists to apply for THINKING IN INSTANT COMPOSITION, a three-day mentorship led by movement artist, performer and teacher, Lucia Walker. The mentorship takes place from 4 to 6 September 2024 at The Centre for the Less Good Idea, Arts on Main, Maboneng. For this mentorship, Walker will be drawing on her experience of practising and teaching Alexander work and Contact Improvisation. It is the principles underpinning these ways of working that will be used to inform Instant Composition. While Instant Composition is primarily a movement-based practice, this mentorship is open to artists across disciplines. It encourages the participation of visual artists, musicians, writers, poets, and actors alongside movement artists. This mentorship also invites applications from artists across age groups, with a special interest in intergenerational movement and spatial dialogues.

2024 indigenous language Pendoring Awards

Celebrating 29 years in 2024, The Pendoring Awards create a space for freedom of expression in South African languages. Pendoring General Manager Eben Keun says, “The Pendoring Awards encourages the communications sector to allow people the freedom to receive their communication in the way they want to consume it. 30 years into democracy, so much is still communicated in English. Pendoring disrupts the status quo by awarding and rewarding indigenous language communication – making the Pendoring Awards truly unique in the communications awards ecosystem.”  Pendoring’s categories cater to publishing houses, digital content creators, filmmakers, gaming and other innovative indigenous language content in addition to traditional advertising and design using indigenous languages.
