With the release of Desire’s album On The Romance of Being on the 7th of April, he let us into his world of sonic creativity and has captivated his audience, yet again. He sets to showcase the project through a live performance. It will be held at the Market Theatre on the 13th of May 2023 with his full band in hopes to give his loyal supporters a physical experience of how the project was assembled.
Desire talks about how this era of his existence is crucial in its documentation as it is about being “stripped down and being bare, exposed, devoid of the gimmicks. To represent the level of craft that went into the music. Being synonymous with artistic excellence, or the ambitious pursuit of it.” This speaks to his evolution and how he wants to share that with his supporters.
The performance will have his trusted 12-piece band, Izimakade, which encapsulates his creative vision for sound and the importance of collaboration in creating his music. He says: “The greater conceptual vision for this album was transforming the electronic compositions into elements that carried the soul — not only for the music but of a collective, something that African Spiritual Music has always been about.”
This leads us to believe that this performance will be a spiritual awakening that is concentrated with energies from the band members, making for a multilayered exhibition of the project.
Jazz musician and collaborator, Zoë Modiga will be joining the festivities as the special guest for the night, relaying her musical renditions to the close-knit community that she and Desire have cultivated. This will be their very first attempt at sharing their song ‘Rah’ with the masses via live performance.
The Market Theatre will flow with artistic excellence on May 13th, as it always does, and Desire describes it as “a historic venue that has always been an institution that has propelled the Black Voice. It has become a shrine of Black Excellence as a result” and feels honoured to make his mark on the walls of a place of such prestige.
This experience is in partnership with Jagermeister SA, which will nourish the festivities during the course of the event and will have facets that break away from and integrate with the main show on the night, satisfying all guests.
Tickets are available on Web Tickets and are open to adults over the age of 18.
